The DC Password And Encrypted Data Manager contains a random password generator. With this feature, you can generate random passwords from 1 to 999 characters long. You can specify whether the generator includes uppercase characters, lowercase characters, numbers, and symbols such as @, #, $, %, and &. You can have it exclude characters that look similar (e.g. l, I, 1, L, o, 0, O, u, v, U, V), as well as ambiguous looking characters (e.g. {, }, [, ], (, ). /, \, ;, :).
A random password generator allows you to create passwords that are very difficult to determine by would-be-attackers of your information. It is recommended that you use the default settings at a minimum, to generate strong passwords. Generally passwords are considered strong when they are 16 or more characters long. The random nature of the password generation, in tandem with the options shown in the dialog box above, increases the strength and flexibility with which you can derive passwords.
The password generator is an optional feature. This means you can use it or ignore it, and type passwords directly into the password field, of a Passwords record.
To use the password generator to randomly generate a password, from the Passwords record you would like to use this feature, click on the Password Generator button on the right of the ribbon bar. Then simply click on the Generate Password button on the bottom left of the resulting dialog box. The above action causes you to use the default settings of the dialog box - which is recommended. If you want, you may alter the settings as you see fit, before clicking on the Generate Password button. After you have generated your password, and you want it to be inserted into the password field of your Passwords record, click on the Ok button in the dialog box. This closes the dialog box, and inserts the generated password into the password field of your current Passwords record.
